Andy Alonzo was born in Detroit in 1942. Growing up in a culturally diverse neighborhood, he was immersed in a variety of musical sounds and rhythms - from Popular and Big band to Gospel and Blues to Latin and Jazz to Rock & Roll and Rhythm & Blues.His performing debut was in a vocal group called The Grenadiers at age fourteen. In 1959, he joined The Latin Counts.
By the time he was seventeen, Andy was in a nationally recognized vocal ensemble "The Martiniques" with a hit record on the charts "Tonight Is Just Another Night". He had finally arrived at age seventeen. From 1961 to 1964, Andy had enjoyed a steady recording and performing careers with Bobby Martins group, learning the club and touring ropes and mixing class with comedic routines.
In 1980, Andy Alonzo re -entered the vocal group scene by reorganizing The Latin Counts, also known as "The Valadiers " Greetings This Is Uncle Sam" of Motown fame. His reputation as an arranger, Multi-range vocalist and stage performer grew and he was often called upon to substitute when other vocal ensembles were in a pinch. In addition to The Latin Counts, his resume includes The Royal Jokers and The Originals, and is currently singing with "The Shades of Blue" doing Rock & Roll and Doo Wop show's all across the country.
Song writing was part of Andy's repertoire of talents from the beginning of his entertainment career, In 1980 he met free- lance music journalist Kevin Keegan, who tried his hand at being sound man with The Latin Counts for a brief time. Over the next Twenty years they forged a friendship and artistic partnership which, alongside Andy Alonzo's former colleagues and band mates, has produced his first solo project - "Death & Taxes ".
